Distribution is part of the product.

It is natural to focus on the thing you are making: the interface, the lesson, the software, the service. Yet the best product in a room is not necessarily the one people discover.

Distribution is the path between a useful solution and the people who need it. It belongs in the product conversation from the first day.

Choose a path you can repeat

Different channels create different relationships. Search works when people are already looking for an answer. Social platforms are useful for discovery and conversation. Newsletters help maintain direct contact. Personal outreach can uncover a customer problem before any audience exists.

The right channel depends on the problem, not the popularity of the platform. A local service may benefit more from a dozen direct conversations than from a thousand international views. A global software tool may find its first customers through highly specific educational content.

Make content do real work

A helpful article should answer a question better than the reader could easily find elsewhere. A product announcement should show a result rather than only list features. A newsletter should provide value even when the reader never buys anything.

When the content is useful on its own, distribution becomes less like interruption and more like being discoverable at the right moment.

Great products deserve an intentional route to market. That route can be small, inexpensive, and human—but it should be designed.
